- What is Optimmune used for?
Cyclosporine is indicated for the management of chronic keratoconjuntivitis sicca (KCS or dry eye) and chronic superficial keratitis (CSK) in dogs.
- How Optimmune should be used?
Cyclosporine is FDA approved for use in dogs only. The usual dose is to apply a ¼ inch strip of ointment to the affected eye(s) every 12 hours. The ointment may be placed directly on the cornea or into the conjunctival sac. Use suitable non-irritating solutions to remove debris from the eye(s) prior to the application of the ointment.
- What are the side effects?
Side effects of cyclosporine may include inflammatory reactions, lid spasm, and excessive rubbing. If ocular irritation persists more than 7 days, consult your veterinarian.
- What special precautions are there?
Do not use cyclosporine in cases of preexisting viral or fungal eye infections. Treatment should be delayed until the viral or fungal infection has been successfully treated.

Contact your veterinarian or veterinary emergency room.
- How should I store Optimmune?
Store this medication at room temperature. Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
