The perception of an Animal Control Officer has changed dramatically over the years. We have gotten away from the public's perception of the "Dog Catcher" riding around looking for stray's and picking on poor innocent dogs. The catcher stigma is gone and we are now being referred to as Animal Control Officers.
Animal Control now has a statewide association known as the North Carolina Animal-Rabies Control Association. This association provides a quality work environment and development of its members through effective training and leadership.
Over the past five (5) years, our department has earned the respect from law enforcement agencies, court officials, county officials, and the general public. We have become much more professional (through knowledge, equipment, uniforms, vehicles, building, and dealing with the public, etc.) and educated through training in all aspects of Animal Control.
