We love spoiling our pets. We buy them special toys, we dress them up in funny outfits and fancy collars and we give them treats on occasion. But are store bought treats good for your pet? Does your pet have gluten allergies? Have you ever thought of baking homemade treats for your pet? Well it’s simple and easy to do and you can customize the recipes to fit your dog’s needs. Here are a few recipes you can try making yourself at home:
Basic biscuit recipe: You will need 2 cups of a non-gluten flour such as rice flour, oat flour or coconut flour, 1 cup of oats, ½ cup dried milk, 2 tablespoons cinnamon, 2 eggs, 1 cup peanut butter, and ½ cup water. Mix well until dough forms then you can either roll out the dough to your desired thickness and cut into shapes or roll into small balls and flatten with a spoon. Place on a baking tray and bake then for 45 minutes in a 400 degree pre-heated oven. Allow to cool and store in an air tight container in the fridge.
Pumpkin Snacks- You will need 1 can of canned pumpkin, 2 cups non gluten flour, rice, oat or coconut flour, 4 tablespoons water, 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, 2 tablespoons pumpkin pie spice,1/2 a cup applesauce. Mix ingredients well, roll into balls and flatten with a spoon and bake at 400 degrees for 45 mins in a preheated oven. Allow to cool and store in an airtight container in the fridge.
Peanut butter and banana treats- You will need 1 ripe banana, 1 cup non gluten flour, rice, oat or coconut flour, 1 egg, ½ cup peanut butter, ½ cup parsley, 2/3 cup of oats. Mash the banana in a bowl and then add remaining ingredients and stir until dough forms. Cut into shapes or roll into small balls and flatten with a spoon and place on a baking tray and bake at 400 degrees for 45 minutes. Allow to cool and store in an airtight container in the fridge.
Pizza puffs- You will need 2 cups non gluten flour, rice, oat or coconut flour, ½ cup parmesan cheese, 1 can tomato sauce, ½ cup parsley, ¼ cup of each oregano and basil, 3 tablespoons garlic powder. Blend all of your ingredients together until dough is formed and then cut into shapes or roll into small balls and flatten with a spoon. Place on a baking tray and bake for 45 mins at 400 degrees. Allow to cool and then store in an airtight container.
