Choosing Cat Furniture

Choosing Cat Furniture

Cats have their specific needs, and there is furniture made especially to satisfy their climbing, scratching, hiding, sleeping and playing needs.

Is cat furniture really necessary? Some people still believe that cat furniture and all these things created especially for our furry companions are just related to owners' extravagance. However the truth is that cat furniture is very useful if you want to protect your own furniture from cat damage, so it presents real advantages. Not to mention that these objects are made from different materials and come in many colors and styles, so you can integrate them successfully in your home décor and make your cat happy.

There are different types of cat furniture, from tall cat trees (which are complete pieces, able to satisfy almost all your cat`s needs) to smaller pieces such as condos, scratching posts and playgrounds.

How to choose quality objects?

The general rule is to choose durable furniture therefore it is important to get information about the materials used with cat furniture (including the covering material), as well as about if it comes assembled or if it is modular. Modular cat furniture has a reputation for not being so sturdy, but that is not always true; its quality depends on the materials used, the manufacturer and on how well it is assembled.

Prices depend upon all these criteria. It is likely that cheap objects are made of not so good materials, so always try to find the best deal based on both price and quality.

Different cats, different needs

Another issue is selecting the right furniture for your cat. You can easily find cat trees and other types of cat furniture at your local pet stores and also online.

You should make a choice based on your cat's size and preferences. For example, a tall tree will be great for a young and very energetic cat, but not adequate for an old cat, which is not so mobile anymore to enjoy such an object. A condo is a good choice if your cat loves to stay in enclosed areas, while a scratching pole should be bought for cats that have a tendency to use other objects around the house for scratching (your couch, carpet).

There are solutions for every cat owner, including for those owning more cats; they can choose a high cat tower with several nests and condos that allow every cat to have her own space. Studies have proven that a cat tree is a great way to increase vertical territory; cats of higher status will claim the highest perch. Cats share the different levels of the perches and stay together but not really next to each other, which is great for those who do not like to share close quarters. Claiming vertical territory reduces the physical confrontations and allows cats to live in harmony.

Having cat furniture in your home will keep your feline entertained and occupied for hours, so make sure you do not forget about your furry friend when you furnish your house.
