California forced sterilization
The state of California is on the brink of becoming the first state in the US to force pet owners to sterilize there pets, following the passing of a bill now in the state Assembly. Pet owners would face a US$500 fine for each pet which is not sprayed or neutered.
In California Some 500,000 unwanted cats and dogs are put down annually the keeping and euthanization of these pets cost the state some US$300 million every year. Animal shelters are constantly overcrowded and also use state and federal grants to operate.
Californias governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, has not yet taken a position either way on the bill and has not disclosed whether or not his personal dogs have been fixed.
