Most of the time, eating out with your dog means finding a restaurant that has an outdoor patio and is pet-friendly. There are good guides for most cities and regions, which you can consult. If you havent planned ahead, the hotel concierge should be able to recommend a couple of places. You can also call the local animal shelter, which may have lists of pet-friendly destinations, or contact local pet supply store. Upscale pet boutiques and pet bakeries will probably have advice on destinations that are both good and welcoming to dogs.
If you bring your dog with you to a restaurant, he must be under control at all times and must be completely dog and people friendly. Aggressive behavior such as snarling, growling or snapping will not please the staff or other customers. A dog who jumps up on people, relieves himself on the restaurants grounds, or snatches food is equally unacceptable.
When waiting for your tables, ask your dog to sit nicely so that other patrons do not become uncomfortable. Once at the table, your dog should be in a down-stay position under the table throughout the meal. Many restaurants will supply your dog with a water bowl and perhaps even a treat. Dont expect this though. Bring a supply of snacks and a bottle of water as well as a watertight bowl. This should keep your pup satisfied while you enjoy your meal.
