When Rover was started to show the signs of aging, we were all concerned about his comfort. It seemed to us that he would have a hard time getting up in the morning. His legs would shake and wobble and he would take about five minutes or just to get up and start walking, where when he was a younger puppy he could jump up in a matter of seconds. His hips were getting really thin and his muscle mass was decreasing, as happens with all dogs in old age. What we found was that we could help Rover by getting an orthopedic dog bed.

The sad part of it all is, we probably could have helped him avoid this by getting it for him when he was much younger. Dogs can develop calluses and arthritis from laying on hard floors or even rocks in the ground. Naturally we did what we could to make him more comfortable during his last few days. That dog was strong as an ox in his time, and it was so hard to see him deteriorate like that. Now, all of our dogs have warm dog beds which help to keep them comfortable, warm, and most importantly, healthier.
