<b>The<i> Drentse Patrijshond</i></b>

History: This breed is believed to have been bred in the sixteenth century from a Spanish dog, the spioenen. It was used to hunt partridge in the Drenthe province, in the eastern part of the Netherlands. The breed was officially recognized in the Netherlands in 1943.

Physical Description: This is a powerful, medium size dog that is longer than it is tall. There is a broad head with a brown nose and amber eyes. The long tail is set high and curves upward, moving in a circle when excited. The medium length coat is longest at the ears, tail, neck, feet and legs. The coat is white with brown, orange, or tan patches or speckles.

Height: 22 to 25 inches

Weight: 50 pounds

Temperament: The Drentse Patrijshond dog is enthusiastic and hard working. It is highly trainable, loyal, and obedient but quite sensitive.

Activity Level: High

Best Owner: It does best with an active owner that includes it in outdoor activities. A rural or suburban home is most appropriate.

Special Needs: Attention, exercise, grooming
