History: The large Munsterlander is a cross of pointers, wachtelhunds and stoberhunds, all believed to be descended from the bird and hawk dogs used in the Middle Ages. The breed was developed in the West Munsterland, Germany, and is a cousin of the small Munsterlander and German longhaired pointer. It only became a separate breed in the early twentieth century and is differentiated from the longhaired pointer by its black and white coloring.
Physical Description: This is a medium to large-size, muscular, and square-shaped dog. It has a long head with a black nose and dark eyes. The drop ears are broad and set high and the tail is long. The medium-length, sleek coat is white with black patches or blue roan, with feathering on the legs, tail and ears.

Weight: 50 to 65 pounds
Temperament: The large Munsterlander is active and easygoing. It is friendly with almost everyone, including children and other animals and is highly trainable. It tends to vocalize.
