History: The perdiguero Navarro is believed to have been developed as early as the twelfth century. It may be the ancestor of the other pointers. Although the breed has come close to extinction several times over the centuries, it was kept alive in rural Spain. Originally used to hunt elk, it is now used as a partridge dog, capable of hunting, pointing, and retrieving birds.
Physical Description: This is a medium to large size dog. It has a large head; long rounded drop ears; pendant flews; and large, chestnut brown eyes. The split nose is a distinctive characteristic. The tail is long and curved and the dense coat may be short or long and smooth. It is liver and white or orange and white, with or without ticking.
