The Coyote
The highly adaptable coyote is the only large predator that has increased its range since the first European settlers arrived in North America. Sharing the same genus as the gray wolf and the domestic dog, the Coyote is found from Alaska to Costa Rica and lives in every US state except Hawaii. In addition to the high pitched howl that most people associate with the coyote, the Coyote is know to use at least ten other types of sounds to communicate. Jackrabbits, ground squirrels, and other small rodents account for the majority of a coyotes diet. Coyotes have also been known to hunt in packs to capture larger prey such as elk and deer.
