A Catahoula Bulldog Will Hunt Down Your Love Until It Gets It

The Catahoula Bulldog is a crossbred between the American Bulldog and the Catahoula Leopard Dog and it can be found mostly in the United States of America (the southern part). It was created for three different purposes: hunting, catching hogs and herding this was the reason why the two breeds were chosen to be mixed in order to create this breed.

This dog is a medium-sized animal, with a well-proportioned and powerful body. Its general appearance may give off a dangerous and aggressive feeling because of its image. Its jaws are strong, the ears are of a medium size and are usually folded, and the tail is either short or long and may be kept in various positions depending on the animals mood. A distinctive feature of this is its big eyes that can have different colors amber, gold, blue, dark brown, green or any of these combined.

The coat is short and smooth and the undercoat is usually inexistent (but will be formed on individuals that live in climates with colder weather). There is a wide range of colors available for this breed, from black, chocolate, brown and grey to tan, to merle and white the coat may have one or more shades (combinations of the ones just mentioned) and patches, and spots or other types of markings can appear on any parts of the body (paws, head, ears, chest, stomach, tail, neck and so on). Since it is short and smooth, maintenance is an easy task brushing regularly and bathing when necessary is all that it will need.

Being a medium-sized dog, a Catahoula Bulldog will be around 55-66 centimeters tall and weigh between 34 and 46 kilograms. Generally a healthy animal, it will not develop any problems if cared for in an appropriate manner make sure to carefully clean its ears and eyes in order to avoid the appearance of any infections.

It can adapt to both apartment and house/yard living conditions (though it prefers large spaces where it can let out all the energy it has), but make sure to never forget its nature if you decide to take it as an apartment pet. Since it is a hunting/herding dog, its body is well-muscled and will need a lot of exercise, so daily long walks are a must in this breeds case; also, running, playing and any other kind of activity that will require it to make physical effort will be beneficial for its general health it has a lot of energy and, if not exercised properly, it may become destructive. This dog is very intelligent and agile, with well developed hunting and herding instincts and abilities. On the other hand, it is also devoted and obedient to its owner, making it a great companion. It is loyal and very protective of its family. Since it has a calm personality (except for the times when, for certain reasons, it is alert) it does well with kids and other pets as well. It needs to be trained and socialized from an early age in order to grow up in the right manner also, make sure to always remind it who the pack leader is.

The Catahoula Bulldog can be a perfect pet its strong protective instinct, the profound affection it has for its owners and the calm personality that characterizes it are exactly what any family needs.
