The Buckley Mountain Feist is not a specific breed. These dogs are mixed breeds and come from somewhere in North America. Mentions regarding this "breed" go way back in history, to the same periods as Abraham Lincoln, George Washington and William Faulkner.



A Buckley is a small/medium sized dog and, because of its general appearance and lack of affiliation to an exact breed, it can be often mistaken to a Jack Russell terrier or a rat terrier.

With a general pleasant appearance, the Buckley Mountain Feist has a well proportioned body, short hair, long pointy ears (when not alert, its ears will fold over) and a long tail. Though it does not look like it at a first glance, this dogs ancestors have been used for hunting, so it has well developed instincts.

Having a height of around 38-43 centimeters and weighing around 8-13 kilograms (proportions may vary depending on the dogs gender and age), the Buckley is not a large dog, but rather considered small to medium sized.

The coat is short and tight, making it easy to maintain. The Buckley Mountain Feist may come in various shades, but the main combinations are light brown/black and white, where white is the main color. Since the hair is short, it is also easy to brush. Washing should be done only when necessary.

Usually strong and healthy, this breed should not develop any health issues if taken care of accordingly. Because of its body structure, this dog will be very active and will require an appropriate exercise program in order to keep in shape.

A hunting dog by origins, the Buckley is very intelligent and active. It will always be curious and has very well developed instincts (it the past it was used for hunting squirrels, raccoons and tracking).

Despite its hunting abilities, the Buckley Mountain Feist gets very attached to its owner. It is devoted and very protective of its family. Loving and patient, this dog makes a great pet for the family and will do very well with children as well.

Since it is not a big dog, this Mountain Feist can adapt to any living conditions. In case of making it an apartment pet, keep in mind that it is, by origins, a hunting dog and has a very active personality; his body will require constant exercise in order to stay healthy and fit daily walks are a must in this breeds case; also, running, games and any other kind of activity that involves a lot of physical effort will be beneficial for it.

One can say about these dogs that they have a double personality there is the strong, fearless side, based on its hunting instincts, when it will do all it needs to protect its territory and family. Then there is the soft side, when the affectionate companion is shown devoted, loving and understanding when it comes to children, it likes to spend time with the family, playing, running, fetching, wagging its tail and so on.

Strong spirited, with a well developed protective instinct and, at the same time, an extremely obedient and loving attitude towards its owners, the Buckley Mountain Feist will make the perfect pet for the family it will guard your home, protect your heart, give you and your loved ones a reason to smile; and all it needs to do that is a chance.
