The Bully Kutta

A Large Dog with a Strong Appearance and a Big Heart

The Bully Kutta, also called "the Indian Mastiff", is a dog breed that, obviously, comes from India and can also be found (sometimes) in Pakistan. Other names are Alangu Mastiff and Shindi Mastiff and the breed has several types, depending on the region Ancient Type, Aseel, Mastiff Type, Nagi Bully, Modern Bully and others.

These dogs are large-sized and very strong, being used in dog fighting and as guard dogs. Though having a thin and loose appearance, they are actually tough animals. As a distinctive feature, the skin on the neck and lower jaw is loose. Their bodies are muscular, having think bones. The jaws are wide and strong, the ears are short and the tail is long.

The coat of a Bully Kutta is short and smooth and comes usually in white. Other colors of the coat are also available and accepted for the breed, such as, black, different shades of brown, fawn, brindle and so on, and, sometimes, markings (of various colors, depending on the general one) may appear on different parts of the body (neck, head, ears, chest, paws). Being short, the fur is easy to maintain regular brushing and bathing when necessary should do the trick.

This breeds life span is of 8 to 10 years. Since it is a large-sized dog, it will also be very tall, around 81-101 centimeters, and will usually weigh between 68 and 77 kilograms (some individuals may surpass 90 or even 100 kilograms there have been such cases).

Powerful by nature, the Bully Kutta is considered a noble breed, these dogs being very intelligent, dominant and hard to handle if the owner lacks experience in the matter. They are loyal, very protective and, despite their strong personalities and physique, they seem to be quite easy to train. They will have no behavior issues whatsoever, as long as the owner communicates with them in the proper manner and always reminds them who the pack leader is.

Generally affectionate and docile with the owner and family (as long as is will always be reminder who the boss is), these animals can be good companions and, if trained properly from an early age, they will also do great with children and other pets as well. Also, since it is in their blood, the dogs of this breed do very well as guard dogs thanks to their strong protective instinct and also because they are very big and, just by seeing them, no one really dares to approach.

Being such a large animal, a Bully Kutta will most probably not be able to adapt to apartment life. A lot of space is necessary to keep such a dog as a pet, and a yard will do wonders for it. Also, as to what exercise is concerned, it will need to be taken out on a daily walk in order to satisfy its canine instinct and to keep it healthy and in shape at the same time (it needs to move, to migrate, or else it may develop certain health or behavior issues).

The Bully Kutta is a large animal, difficult to handle, but, if trained properly it will make a perfect guard dog and a very good pet overall it is a special dog that needs special attention and care, love and respect, trust and understanding.
