The Perfect Guard Dog, a Loyal and Loving Friend, Your Shorty Companion

The Bulldog comes from the United Kingdom. Other common names that are used for this breed will add British and English to the main name. There are several such breeds and their names depend on the place of origin American, French, Australian and Olde English Bulldogge.

Distinctive features of the breeds British version include the well-muscled body structure, a pushed-in big nose and also the wrinkled coat on the head/face. The dogs of this breed are considered of medium size, have a compact body and short legs. At a first glance, it is a massive animal (even though it is not that tall). Its eyes are big, deep, set wide apart and the jaws are strong.

This coat of the Bulldog is short, straight and smooth and it can come in several colors different shades of brindle, solid red/white, piebald, fawn, pale yellow, fallow, washed-out red or any kind of combination between all these. Thanks to the furs characteristics, maintenance is easy bathing should be done only when necessary, while brushing needs to be done once in a while with a firm brush. Since the skin/coat forms wrinkles on the head and face, this area needs daily cleaning - using a damp cloth to wipe inside the wrinkles will do the job. The shedding process is a normal one.

The average life span of this breed is around 8 years (depending on each individual), and such a dog will be about 31-40 centimeters tall and weigh between 22-25 kilograms (differences appear based on the gender). The females can give birth to 4-5 puppies, but may need caesarian.

As to what heath is concerned, the Bulldog may develop breathing issues. Its eyesight is not a very good one either, and the dog is also sensitive to extreme temperatures. Skin infections may appear, and knee/hip problems can become an issue as well. Make sure to feed it only its regular dog food, or else it can develop flatulence.

Though they may look fierce and dangerous, the dogs of this breed are actually very gentle but this will never happen when it comes to strangers, in which case their strong protective instinct will show. They are extremely intelligent and completely dependable, are loyal, obedient and fairly easy to train as long as they are reminded who is in charge. At the same time, they are very affectionate towards their families, need a lot of attention and are great with children. They may be messy when it comes to eating and it is highly possible that they will develop loud snoring and drooling habits.

The Bulldog can adapt very well to apartment living conditions as well as to house/yard situations (this is because they are quite inactive indoors and do not really need a yard kind of lazy) and prefer temperate climates (since they are sensitive to extremes).

As exercise, daily walks should be enough (but are a must) and keeping the dog in shape is good for its health in general. Puppies have a lot of energy, but, as they grow older, they will become slower in movement.

All in all, the Bulldog seems to have the qualifications of the perfect pet very good guard dog, intelligent, loyal and obedient to its owner, affectionate with the whole family and great with children; what more can someone ask for?
