The Braque Dupuy had its origins in France. It was a hunting dog and was created by crossing greyhound-type dogs with other Braques. Because of their body structure, these dogs were considered to be neither medium nor large sized, but somewhere in between. Nowadays, there can be found dogs similar to this breed, maybe even called the same, but not completely like the original and, even so, they are considered a rare breed.
This Braque's coat is short, smooth and mainly white. Markings of various shades (orange, liver, reddish) can be found on different parts of their bodies and on the head (around the eyes and on the ears). Because of the coats general characteristics, brushing is an easy task and needs to be done only once in a while in order to maintain it beautiful and healthy; also, washing must be done only when necessary.
With an average height of 48 to 57 centimeters and weighing between 22 and 28 kilograms, the Braque Dupuy has an athletic appearance, with a well proportioned and strong body structure; this breed has a long tail and a long, pointed head, with big ears; because of the change in the original breeds form, the tail can be shorter.
The Braque Dupuy is a strong dog in general. As to what heath is concerned, some issues may appear, such as hip and elbow dysplasia, eye problems, skin allergies and bloat. Being a hunting dog by origins, this breed has an active personality and needs appropriate exercise regularly; daily long walks, games and any kind of physical activity should be enough to keep these dogs in shape. Thus, the Braque does best in a family that can provide it with a house and a yard; though not as well, it can also adapt to apartment life as long as it is given the amount of exercise that it needs to keep in shape.
The Braque Dupuy is full of energy. Having a lively personality, these dogs make great pets, because they will become very attached and obedient once you gain their trust. Being a hunting dog by nature, a Dupuy is very intelligent and has well developed instincts: protection, orientation, chasing, scent and so on.
As to what training is concerned, this breed, being a descendent of hound dogs, has a temperament similar to its ancestors; thus, it can be stubborn at first, making the training process a difficult one. In order to be well trained, these dogs will need strict owners, that are able to communicate well with the animals, have experience in the matter and are very patient. Once trained, the bond between a Dupuy and its owner will become very strong, based on trust and loyalty.
Because of its origins and personality characteristics, this breed may have issues with children and other pets, since it is always full of energy and very active; but, with appropriate training, it can learn to properly behave in these cases as well. These dogs need a lot of attention and, if not provided with it, they will become disobedient and destructive.
All in all, the Braque Dupuy is a very intelligent breed and can make the perfect companion, especially for a hunting enthusiast; with appropriate living conditions, training and care, it will become very affectionate and obedient, a perfect pet.
