A perfect family dog but also a great companion for singles, the Cierny Sery is loyal, intelligent and reliable.
Loving and friendly, this dog will become part of its family and can get along with children very well, if it is raised properly. These are energetic and protective dogs, alerting the members of the family about any possible danger. The Cierny is a great watchdog, but its watchful nature can result in excessive barking. In order to avoid annoying people around, the owners should make efforts to train the dog against excessive barking. The breed is intelligent and independent-minded, so consistent education and daily exercise are recommended.
This is a Slovak breed that has been obtained by crossing Belgian Sheepdogs with Altdeutsche Hütehund, in 1981. It was accepted internationally between 2001 and 2009, so it is a quite new breed.
Always predominantly black, this very friendly breed has 3 subcategories. Short (with double coat), Long (with double coat as well, longer on ears legs and tail) and Rough - double coated, with barb and moustache.
This is a very special dog, as its looks and temperament are similar to family dogs such as the German Shepherd. In fact, in its origins reside the Belgian Shepard, German Shepard and the Schnauzer. Plus, as mentioned, its primary ancestor is the Altdeutsche Hütehund, which is an old German sheep dog.
This dog loves people and especially children. It looks athletic and elegant, strong and imposing, perfect for many types of work including service dog work.
The males' height varies from 23 to 26 inches (59-67 cm) while females vary between 22 and 24 inches (56-62 cm). The average weight is between 55-66 pounds (25 - 30 kg) for males and 44 - 55 pounds (20 - 25 kg) for females.
Being generally a healthy breed, the Cierny Sery loves to exercise and play. If this is combined with any sort of training, the dog will love it even more, as it is an intelligent dog and enjoys challenges. Exercise is very important to this breed, as lack of physical activity can make them sad or restless.
They also love long walks and nature, but are able to adjust to apartment life conditions as long as their physical exercise routine is constant.
This breed loves training, as it is part of their nature to explore and be challenged. Furthermore, they are protective with their master and also with his belongings. The Cierny does a great job as a watch dog. These dogs are vigilant, but not apprehensive. This is not a shy dog - on the contrary, very sociable and rarely showing fear.
The Cierny is an elegant breed, very alert and full of life. As in many cases, the male dog is usually more impressive than the female. Their movement is smooth, but they show a marked tendency to move in a circle rather than in a straight line.
This Cierny Sery is special through its roots and appearance, his intelligence and loving behavior contributing to making it a great choice for a pet.
