Lakeland Terrier A Small Ball Of Fur That Will Make Your Day More Beautiful

The dog breed Lakeland Terrier takes its name from the place where it comes from, the Lake District in England. These dogs have a lot of energy, they interact well not only with their owners but also with their family, and they have an independent personality. Even though this breed is a hypo-allergenic one, which it means that is not shedding, there are countries in the world where this breed is not very well-known, such as the United States.

Bold, friendly and confident are the first qualities that come to anyones mind when thinking about a Lakeland. You can choose to have such a dog in your family without worries, as they are neither aggressive nor shy. They are very intelligent dogs with a very independent mind and that can be easily trained. Once you catch their attention and you are willing to spend some time with them, you can teach them to do almost anything you want. Do not be surprised if, in a couple of months, they will have learned how to respond to all your commands and even to surprise with new tricks that they have learned on their own. Also, you should know that this breed is very receptive to crate training.

If you want to have s peaceful life with your dog you should know from the beginning that this is a very energetic breed, so they need to go out as many times as it is possible. They should be taken out for long walks or runs and, in the meantime, you can teach them some exercises in order to get rid of all the extra-energy. If this routine is not respected, sooner or later this dog will try to find other ways to consume its energy and the owner might find them a little disturbing and annoying: chewing the furniture, scarping the floors or the doors and even running continuously inside the house.

This breed is not predisposed to any particular health problems, so if it is taken care of properly, it should live up to 10 or 12 years. There were some happy cases in which a Lakeland Terrier lived up to 16 years old.

Because it is such an alert breed, this dog needs unyielding training along with a confident, consistent and firm leader. Be careful because this breed like to mark more than it is necessary that is why may be needed to know how to make it stop when it does that. Whether the training is made by you or a specialized person, be careful to vary the exercises. The Lakeland gets bored very easily and because of the routine, it may not respond as well as you want it to in some situations. Vary its training exercises and this way you will be able to achieve the dogs maximum potential.

To sum up, the Lakeland Terrier is a very playful and loving companion that not only will enlighten your day but it also will put a big smile on your childrens faces.
