The Giant Maso Mastiff - A Gentle Soul and a Watchful Companion

The Giant Maso Mastiff is quite a new breed developed to improve mastiffs condition. This type of dog was created in 2001 by breeding the Old English Mastiff with Cane Corso. The purpose was to create a much healthier dog, but similar in appearance to the other mastiffs.

The Giant Maso Mastiff is a large dog with a lean, muscular body. Everything about this dog shows stability and strength. It has a big, massive head and a long, powerful muzzle. Its lips hang down far past their mouth. Its ears are medium-sized and floppy. The eyes are dark and close together. The neck is thick and strong and is covered with loose folds of skin. The chest is wide and solid and the back is wonderfully curved. The tail is long and supple. Its body might not emphasize agility, but this dominant dog has an imposing appearance completed by elegant movements. The coat is very short, but dense and is also very shiny. The colors vary, but, in general, the most predominant ones are fawn, gray or black with brindles. The legs are long and muscular and offer a certain suppleness to the entire body.

There are some differences in size between males and females. The male is much heavier than the female, it is 30 inches (76 cm) tall and weighs 175-200 pounds (80-90 kg), while the latter is 27 inches (69 cm) tall and weighs 130-150 pounds (60-70 kg).

This huge dog is known as a loving companion. Its size is nothing compared with its great personality. It is gentle, caring and has the calm temperament of the Old English Mastiff. Being so devoted to its family, this dog can make you feel safe anywhere you are, because it has the protective instincts of the Cane Corso. Its good nature and patience makes it perfect for children and older persons.

This breed does not only appear well-balanced, but it really is self-confident and docile. However, training is always necessary to get along with your dog. It is easy to train, but make sure you remain calm and firm when giving the orders. It can easily understand what to do next. Because its instinct is to become a good guardian, it is important to show it that you are the leader of the pack. It is usually friendly with the other dogs and needs a lot of attention and companionship.

Even if it is that large, this dog will do well even in an apartment because it is not very active outdoors. Also, a small yard would be perfect for its type of character. But still, it needs daily walks and regular exercises to maintain its good disposition. It tends to be lazy indoors and it is not bothered if you leave it alone from time to time.

Grooming is minimal due to its short hair. It needs only occasional brushing and washing. Its life expectancy is about 10 to 12 years.

In general, the Giant Maso Mastiff is a good and obedient dog, perfect for a family with children who are willing to offer him a stable shelter.
