The Otto Bulldog - A Very Affectionate And Protective Breed

The Otto Bulldog is a dog of gentle nature and brave spirit that has been bred in the attempt to re-create the White English Bulldog. It is a friendly, outgoing and trainable dog and a natural guard dog. It is often confused with the Alaphala Blue Blood Bulldog line, but it should be stressed out that the two are separate breeds.

A medium-sized dog, it reaches 21-22 inches in height (53-55 cm) and 65-80 pounds in weight (29.5-36 kg). Its head is flat and broad and the muzzle is square-shaped. The body is muscular and well-balanced. Somewhat longer than it is tall, it has a deep, wide chest and narrow hips. The eyes are brown-colored, while blue is considered a fault where eye color standards are concerned.

The medium-length ears can fold to the side of the head or they can be held erect. They can also be cropped. The short, shiny coat is medium in roughness and can be colored in white, brown, black, red and brindle. Combinations of white and any of the enumerated colors are accepted. Blue, grey and merle are not accepted colors. The tail is medium in length and tapers towards its end.

The Otto Bulldog has a friendly personality, yet it is very courageous when need be to protect its masters. It is a very loyal breed and very protective also. Actually, it would defend its owners and its home with its own life, if necessary. It is also good with children, as well as with other animals. Inexperienced owners may find it to be stubborn. Like any other dog, it must be taught to regard its masters as the leaders of the pack. If the owner is not consistent, firm, yet affectionate, in the role of alpha male, the dog feels that it is necessary for it to take the responsibility of leading, thus displaying a stubborn and difficult to control attitude. The breed can be a challenge where training is concerned even for more experienced dog owners, but the challenge is worth it for a dog lover.

This dog is easy to groom and does not require complicated maintenance. It should be brushed weekly and only bathed when it is definitely necessary. Otherwise, the coat can be kept clean by wiping it with a damp cloth. The nails need clipping once or twice a month and the ears should be cleaned regularly. So that skin infections are avoided, the dogs face, with care for its wrinkles and the area around the eyes, should be wiped daily. Its life expectancy is of 12 to 15 years.

Having an average activity level, it is fit for apartment life, staying quite inactive while indoors. It will appreciate an available average-sized yard however. It needs to be taken on daily walks and it basically is happy with 20 to 30 minutes of daily exercising.

A dog that gets highly attached to its masters, the Otto Bulldog is great as a family member and a guardian of the house.
