Caine, f/k/a Van Morrison, is a show stopper!  With his gorgeous fawn coat, athletic build and serious countenance, he can even look a bit intimidating, but Caine is actually a very loving and very loyal dog.  Caine came to Furkids at eight weeks old, the runt of a litter of eight starving puppies.  You can read all about the puppies' rescue at https://furkids.org/blog/ archives/03/2014 (Caine is the only fawn-colored puppy in the litter).   

Caine has been raised in two loving households.  The first was a home where he was a constant companion to a young girl.   He adored the girl and spent many nights hosting sleepovers and dress up parties with her friends. Caine was off to a great start with his new family but ironically the love and coddling he received backfired and landed him back in Furkids’ shelter.  We had hoped that the love and affection that Caine received would help him to develop into a balanced and happy member of the family. Unfortunately, Caine's devotion to his family quickly grew into a more protective behavior.  They enlisted a trainer and tried to be the leaders that Caine needed them to be, but that didn't happen.

Caine's second home was a perfect one -- all adults and no other pets.  Caine came to love his new family and they loved him deeply, too.  In fact, when it became known that a baby would join the family, they made sure that Caine went through intensive training to ensure that he would accept the baby.  Unfortunately, Caine is one of those dogs that cannot be in a home with young children or other pets.  As much as they are sad to see him go, we are confident that we can find Caine the type of home that best suits him, especially since he is in all other respects the perfect dog. He is extremely loyal, intelligent, obedient and a sucker for love.

Caine is crate-trained and house broken.   He loves to play ball and go for walks/runs on a leash, but he is not a high energy dog.  He can be very chill and lounge all day and watch TV with you on the couch.   He is well-trained and knows these commands: down, touch, go to your bed, rollover, paw and when you tell him to sit, he will remain sitting until you tell him to "go".  Caine does get nervous in new situations and when meeting new people, but once he gets to know his surroundings and the new person, he is fine. Caine’s latest home got him trained at U.S. Canine, whose services last the lifetime of the dog. This means that all continued training and assistance needed with Caine is already covered by U.S. Canine. U.S. Canine will meet with new owners and help them get acquainted with what it takes to “be the leader of your pack,” because that is the type of home Caine needs - someone to trust and guide him.
