Adopt a Domestic Short Hair (short coat)
Manny, Declawed Senior Cat that needs a Quiet Home the Cat needs a home
Once in foster care, Manny was taken in for a "spa day" at the Pet Authority Groomers to get bathed and the works! We can tell he feels SO much better now. Manny was declawed by his owners when he was young. Since at that special Veterinary office and in our care Manny has had senior wellness diagnositics completed including complete bloodwork, a urinalysis, fecal test, and x-rays. He is up to date for all vaccines and will be micro-chipped prior to adoption. Manny has a benign fatty skin polyp on his torso that has been properly examined and is a non-issue. X-rays do indicate that he suffers from some arthritis in his hide legs, which is not uncommon for an older cat of his age. At this time, he takes no medication, has no infections of any kind, and has no signs of chronic illness. But due to being overweight, we are feeding him Hills Science Diet Metabolic Weight-Management cat dry cat food. He seems to only like dry food, not wet. He tends to eat at night, but he does well eating and drinking. And using the litter box. He has been a perfect litter box user in his foster home and at the vet office too. Note: Due to Manny's size, a large shallow type litter box is best, especially for older cats with arthritis. We will be happy to send his litter box home with him too.
Manny is on the quiet side, he is a bit shy but after acclimating to a new environement here in his foster home he does roam around quietly - especially at night - and will come over and rub against your legs and purr. It took him about 3 weeks to do that, but after all, he lost the only home he knew for 14 years, so there will be a bit of an adjustment period. We ask for patience.
Manny did not live with other cats or dogs therefore he would do best in a household with no other cats or dogs, or perhaps with another older, calmer cat. He is not aggressive in any way but if he is unsure, he will hiss a little (which is common for declawed cats since they have no other natural defense). But once he gets to know you he will show you how well he can purr, and he can purr loudly!
One night, I was able to get Manny to play with a ribbon for about 10 solid minutes - anything to burn some calories!
We can only hope that a special person will come forward to allow this handsome cat (he looks like a baby bear cub when he walks!) to live out his remaining years in a calm and quiet environment with a caregiver who understands what it is like to get old. He would make a wonderful companion for a single person or someone who understands senior animals.
