German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (medium coat) Dog

MAGGIE the Dog needs a home

When you meet Maggie (aka Mags, Mag Pie, Maggie May) you will fall in love with Maggie. She may look like any Shepard blend, but she is special. She was brought into ACS with two puppies, which were fortunate enough to get adopted as soon as they were of age. But as it tends to go, mama was left behind.
I picked Maggie out the day before her last day at ACS. She was shy and super thin, clearly unhappy and desolate. I picked her up the next morning and found a dog that wasn''t accustomed to walking on a leash - she lay down and called it quits about 15 steps out of the building. We carried her to my car and I quickly came to find that she''d never been in a car either. Scared and overwhelmed are the best words to describe her that day.
Things improved quickly. She made fast friends with my dog and she fell in love with all the attention showered upon her. She''s put on muscle and some weight, although she still has a few more pounds to go. And she''s happy! Mags can be found instigating play time with my dog several times a day. She''s finally getting to be the dog she''s never had the chance to be.
She revels in giving kisses! She''s completely comfortable in her kennel. I don''t enclose her in it, as much as leave it open and let her use it as her safe space. She loves toys and dinnertime! When Maggie is excited to see you she''ll slightly head butt your hip or leg and if she''s feeling really playful, she nibbles at your clothes; never pulling or causing damage, just enough to say `play with me.`
Mag Pie has a gentle way about her. She''s very social, has had no issue with anyone she''s come into contact with, especially other dogs! I''m not sure I can say the same thing for cats, so a home without cats would be best. As social as she is, she is still protective of her people and her space. Never causing any cause for concern with people clearly welcome, she will bark at anything out of the ordinary.
Fostering her has been a joy. Watching her go from sad and shy to happy, healthy, and silly has made me proud to be part of the fostering program. I can''t wait to find her forever home! She deserves someone to call her own and would work well for someone who has a lot of love to shower on a recovering girl!
