Mama Blue isn't blue as in sad, she's just got gorgeous blue eyes!
This lovely lady was surrendered to the shelter last fall along with her three pups for unknown reasons. She was a wonderful mama and all her pups have since been adopted (they were the Stone litter: Amber, Jade and Ruby). Now it's Blue's turn! She appears to be a Catahoula Leopard Dog mix about three and a half years old. She's house trained, crate trained and walks well on a leash. She's okay with dogs she knows, and can be a bit nervous with new dogs. She likes to play chase and do some rough wrestling, and is sure to let the others know what the boundaries are. She LOVES people of all ages and sizes. She sometimes forgets her manners and jumps up, but once you start petting her, she sits nicely and soaks up all the attention. She's got a head start on her commands: she knows "sit," "stay," "down," and "wait." She's smart, treat motivated and eager to please, so learning more cool stuff should be a breeze. She will climb a 5-foot fence if left outside unsupervised, so a taller fence is recommended if she'll have a fenced yard. If a yard isn't an option, then daily leash walks and opportunities to play off-leash in a dog park will suit her just fine. Dogs of all ages also benefit from mental stimulation - think puzzle toys and games. Cats are a no-go with Blue - she will bark intensely at them and will chase if the opportunity arises. She rides calmly either tethered or loose in the car, and likes going to new places. She LOVES toys (squeaky and chew), playing fetch, laptime, going for walks, cratetime and meeting new people. She settles quickly after activity and is more than happy to be a couch potato.
Mama Blue is dreaming of having her very own forever home where she can play or just laze around with her family. Could she be the missing piece to your family puzzle? Fill out an application today and make her dreams come true!
Medical Note: This dog has been treated for heartworm disease with melarsomine injections. Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and able to be adopted. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment. A good resource for more information on heartworm disease is:
