Adopt a Shar Pei / Mixed

Otis is Shar Pei mix, estimated to be about 5-8 years old. He was found left on the side of the road in South Carolina for at least a week. He is a little shy, but he is very sweet. Since being rescued he has truly come out of his shell! He is goofy and has lots of energy. He loves belly rubs and butt scratchs. He loves being outside, going on walks, chewing bones, and eating. He loves having a bed/rug/spot to sleep & snores and makes funny noises. It seems that his has a history of abuse and can be a little wary of people. Some snapping has been seen mostly out of nerves or protectiveness. This behavior has never been shown towards me or any guests, only towards roommates who have not been around him. He has actually loved when people come over because there is more people to pet him. He would be good with a single person or a family environment where everyone in the household can bond and love him & he know he can trust them. Good with kids he has been around, but not around them for long periods of time. Not good with cats. He has been good with my dog, but he can be a little possessive with toys/food (just with dogs trying to take them sometimes). He loved going to our small dog park and was good with all the dogs, but mostly hung out with all the people!

He is in good health, up to date on shots, no heartworm. He had x-rays done on his legs after an odd gait & some limping. This showed his hip was dislocated. He has surgery to fix his hip on June 7th. He is doing so well & the very next day was using his leg again - I need to get him to slow down & take it easy sometimes! His leg had been like this for some time so he may require some long-term joint care, but otherwise his leg does not seem to bother him & he is healing well. I am hoping to get him into a local rehab place to learn some exercises and stretches for him. His x-rays showed that he has bee bees in him from being shot, so his wariness towards people is understandable. He's had it pretty tough, it seems; he is so sweet and goofy & he just deserves the world.
