Adopt a Shih Tzu

Sadie is a true gem. She came to CHR in rough shape from a local shelter but, after a few months in our care, she’s really thriving. Her right eye was injured in her last home and she lost her vision in the eye but that hasn’t slowed her down one bit. Sadie is very sweet and affectionate—she loves to cuddle and sit by your side.  She bounces around the house happy and full of playfulness, racing back and forth when she is excited.

Because Sadie came to us in a neglected state, we have her on a high-quality diet supplemented with fish oil and she is looking much better. Sadie does fine around other dogs but she is a little timid and may trot away from a dog who is showing her a lot of interest. We're giving preference to adoptive homes without other dogs or with only one dog who will co-exist without much interaction with her.  Sadie dislikes being groomed so her foster mom has been working with her to reduce her reaction to grooming.  She's making good progress but a groomer who takes their time and has experience working with dogs who dislike grooming is best for her. With time, Sadie will become more comfortable with being groomed but we need to make sure you understand that she needs time to build trust in her groomer. As a service to our adopters, our groomer in Springfield, VA offers a discounted rate to CHR adopters whose dogs are anxious during grooming. 

IDEAL HOME FOR SADIE: Sadie is used to going out every few hours for potty breaks. Without these regular breaks, she will go indoors. To avoid daily accidents, Sadie needs a home with someone home part of the day or a home that is willing to employ a licensed dog walker. A securely fenced yard is highly desirable since Sadie is used to using one for potty breaks in her foster home. To make grooming easier and safer, Sadie’s adopter should be willing to drive to our groomer to Springfield, VA in case she needs a special groomer during her transition over the first six months in her adoptive home.
