Honey (Bear)

Honey is a fourteen (14) year old golden retriever surrendered to the Humane Society due to the owner becoming ill and no longer able to care for her. Moreover, since it is a policy of the Humane Society not to disclose the former owner’s name which the Humane Society did not disclose, the ex-wife located us by a search of golden retriever rescue groups in the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania area some five hundred miles from Allentown where the ex-wife is currently living, for help with Honey. We do partner with the Humane Society and they called us to take her. 

What we do know about Honey is as noted above, she is 14 (estimated) since she was rescued from a shelter in Allentown some twelve years ago. Therefore, we added the word estimated since there was no information on her age while at the shelter in Allentown.

Honey gets along with other dogs, very obedient – comes when called, lets you know when she needs to go out, and walks well on a leash. She is completely vetted and micro chipped. However, she does have some health challenges specifically with her bladder and arthritis. With the latter she was recently put on Novox (generic for Rimadyl) for the arthritis. Moreover, she has been diagnosed with cancer. 

The bladder issue is much more challenging. When Honey is walked, she will stop and pee seven or more times while on a one mile walk. When she goes while on the walk, little or nothing comes out.
 
Moreover, she will get us up every half hour to go out. If not, she will go in our home.  We have had extensive blood panels done with indeterminate results. Also x-rays have been taken with no visible sign to indicate a possible tumor. She has been back three times over the past month to several vets to examine her and thus to possibly render another opinion and all the exams came back with inconclusive results. Accordingly, we had an ultra sound performed. The vets' concluded that what is in her bladder appears to be some form of cancer. Accordingly, due to her age and other health challenges she will not have the exploratory surgery done.
