Adopt a Domestic Short Hair (short coat)

My name is Champagne, but I also go by Pumpkin because of my striking orange eyes.  I am a spayed female short-haired Russian blue mix with white whiskers, white ‘tuxedo’ markings, and some of the softest fur that you will ever pet!  

My mom and dad were foster volunteers with the Montgomery County Humane Society.  Over nearly two decades they helped to find forever homes for dozens of cats, dogs, rabbits, and even chinchillas!  Some of us managed to convince Mom and Dad that we should become a permanent part of their home; and while the foster organizers may have categorized us as ‘foster fails’, I say we just proved to be too irresistible.

In my years with Mom and Dad I have lived with many other cats, dogs, and rabbits.  I have lived in a big house that had an animal-friendly fenced backyard way up on a hill in a quiet neighborhood.  I’m pretty independent when it comes to other cats – I do like my space and my time for attention from my parents.  I get along great with the dogs I’ve been around – even big dogs like the large chow mix that I live with now, who I often rub on and have been known to even sleep with on my parent’s bed! 

As for people – I have very little experience around kids so am not sure how well we’d get along.  But around adults (both my parents and their adult children) I am often very friendly – for example, if you’re standing near me I just love to weave my way between your legs in a figure eight pattern (makes it hard for you to get away – that’s fine by me!).  I’m not one to be picked up and cuddle,  but I do like attention and being near you (listen for my healthy purr and you’ll know all is well!).

I’m quite spry and energetic – if I need to get your attention it’s not uncommon for me to hop up to your level to make it easier for you to pet me.  I especially like to be petted on my head down to my shoulders.  As with some of my feline brethren, at times if I’m no longer in the mood to be petted I may let you know – but please know that I will always be back for more!  I would like my new family to understand this about me and be OK with it.

I live and sleep indoors but do like to venture outside if the yard is safe for me and you’re around to make sure that I’m safe and can get back in.  I do like to keep track of the birds in the yard, so you probably want to make sure that I can’t get to them at feeders, etc.  It’s not uncommon for me to stay out for a while, but of course never overnight or when you’re not around.

Here’s the sad part of my story: Mom passed away suddenly in early 2015, and Dad in July of this year.  I really like being around people and so it’s lonely now without them.  I am looking for a new forever home where I can be around my new parents and be myself – look out the window at the birds, go outside in your safe backyard briefly, and sleep on your bed when I need a little nap. 

Physically I am in great shape – all vet records including shots are up to date, and I am not on any medicines currently.  I eat store brand dry food along with store brand moist food daily; nothing fancy but suits me fine.
