Domestic Short Hair (short coat) Cat

Khandro the Cat needs a home

Please contact Michelle ([email protected]) for more information about this pet.

This is Khandro's story:

Last May, a black cat showed up at a house with her 4 baby kittens. She was a very good mom and kept her kittens nearby while she found food for herself. She was such a good mom that she stayed close by when her kittens were rescued and brought inside. She followed and stayed with them even though she did not trust the people who were helping her kittens - Khandro (black), his brothers, Hunter (black/white tuxedo) and Ashoka (Siamese), and his sister Kelsey (tortoise shell).

Khandro's mom was trapped, spayed and released back to her neighborhood. His brothers and sister were adopted, but beautiful Khandro was still waiting for his forever family to find him. In the meantime, he went to live with his foster family, where he had another cat to keep him company, children to play with, and a mom and dad to keep him safe. He likes to explore, run around, learned to play fetch, and do all the fun things that kittens love to do. But he is a very calm kitten, and growing into a big, beautiful black cat!

As he was growing, his foster mom noticed that his breath wasn't smelling very good, which is very unusual for a kitten! He went to the vet, was given antibiotics to clear up his infected gums, and it was discovered that he had a grade 3 heart murmur. His gum cleared up, and he gets his teeth brushed, but he has juvenile gingivitis and really needs to get his teeth cleaned at a vet's office.

He went to Animal Health Center at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay for a consultation about his heart murmur to determine if he could get his teeth cleaned, which requires anesthesia. They did an x-ray of his heart, which was  normal. His blood work was also normal. Now he needs to go to a cardiologist and have an ultrasound. Once that is done, hopefully he will be cleared to get his teeth cleaned. And then he will be ready to find his forever home. But for now we know that he is well cared for at his foster home!
