From the Foster:

Jax is playful, affectionate, energetic and fun! He’s strong, agile, loves running and playing and seems pretty confident and comfortable with a variety of people and animals.

Since coming to our home, he has made friends with everyone. He especially loves our other foster dog and they have become like brothers, always chasing and one-upping the other. They play aggressively, but have had no fights and seem to have established an understanding. He’s super interested in our cat, though hasn’t harmed him - I do worry that his interest is increasing and so we often step in and correct him when he seems focused on the cat. He plays with the kids (2 and 4) well and does not seem anxious around them at all. He likes to lick and roll around and play; but is very mouthy - so we have to watch the little hands and ours as well. He seems very puppy-like in his behavior; not aggressive. He is about 1 yr old; so totally appropriate.

House training - he seems to be house trained and has not had any accidents yet. He does well going outside in a particular spot in our yard. Someone is nearly always home, so he gets let out often and we haven’t tested the boundaries of how long he can hold it.

Obedience - he knows ‘sit’ and ‘down,’ but isn’t always consistent. He knows his name and sometimes ‘come.’  He loves treats and food though; so training would likely be easy. On a leash, he is fine, but does pull a lot and would need training and/or a harness to help him learn to walk beside you. Jax does seem a little fearful of my male partner - if he raises his voice, Jax will act submissive and afraid. Calm, kind, patient attention and training/guidance will be best for him.

Crate training - Jax does great in his crate. He doesn’t always want to go in, but once does, he settles with minimum whining. When we go to get him, he’s usually relaxed and calm. He rarely barks in his crate, but again, since we’re home so much, we haven’t tested the limits of that. But because he is energetic, I don’t think he’d appreciate long days of being in his crate.

Habits - Jax likes toys and likes chewing. He has a few chew toys he really enjoys, but has also chewed wood objects in our house. For that reason, we don’t leave him alone unattended yet :)  Even in our presence, he’s tried to chew furniture when excited and we correct him and redirect to one of his toys. He does also bark at people he sees outside the house. An apartment might not be ideal for him.

Overall, Jax is a super great dog! He loves to snuggle up into you at night and is a big lug of love. He’d do well in a variety of home situations, including one with another dog he could bond with, kids, adults, etc. He has so much potential and will be a great family member if the fit is right. He needs some training with commands, manners, walking on a leash, etc. He needs consistent, daily exercise to release all his energy and hopefully eliminate unwanted chewing. He is silky soft and just so handsome. We’re happy to get to know him and help him out.
