MARY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Mary Best Guess for Breed: Jack Russell Terrier
Best Guess for Age: 4 years SEX: female
Approximate Weight: 10 lbs.
Has Lived With: other dogs
Currently Living at: DC area foster home
Special consideration: Because Mary is timid she would do best in a home with children over the age of 10.
Looking for a small dog who wants a loving home where she can feel safe and secure? Ready to be the best person ever to a little Jack Russell terrier who will follow you all over the house and loves to give kisses? If you answered yes to these questions then Mary is the dog for you!
Coming to DC was a huge change for Mary and she is still getting used to all the sights and sounds of the big city. She would do well in a home where someone was around much of the day or there was another dog for her to interact with. She will need exercise but is a bit intimidated on her walks so a fenced-in back yard would be a good place to start. Mary likes other dogs but isn't quite ready for the hectic pace of a busy dog park.
Mental stimulation is good for dogs and Mary will build up her confidence by learning how to handle new challenges. Puzzle toys would be an excellent activity for her to explore. Just be sure to have plenty of treats handy!
Mary will benefit from obedience training as learning to focus on you will help distract her from everything going on outside. JRTs can be strong-willed but Mary is a bit atypical and definitely on the quiet and calmer side of the JRT scale.
Like most shelter dogs, Mary may need a refresher on housetraining and is likely crate trained. According to her foster she is doing well with housetraining but anything can happen when a dog goes to a new home. Mary gets along well with other dogs and is currently doing fine in a home with a cat. She has not yet been tested with kids but would do best with older children due to her shyness.
The adoption fee for this dog is $350, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Diane at [email protected]!
