Adopt a American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat)
COURTESY LISTING: Blue the Dog needs a home
Blue is 3 years old, neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated, and is one very handsome hunk of dog. (Doesn't he look manly posing by the John Deere equipment?) He knows the commands sit, down, and shake hands, so his former owners did spend some time teaching him some basics. And he does seem to be house-trained because he always waits until he is out of his kennel to do his business. He walks well on leash, and would make a good jogging partner if you want to run with him for a mile or two. He can sometimes be reserved when meeting new people because being in the shelter is a new and strange situation for him, but he warms up to you in a few minutes if you are kind and gentle toward him. He ended up at the shelter because his owner temporarily left him with some people to dog-sit him, but the owner pretty-much abandoned Blue, and sadly, Blue is not allowed to live on base because of his breed. He hasn't done anything wrong, he just happens to be a pit bull mix. For the short time he was with the folks temporarily dog-sitting him, he was in the home with another dog. Here at the shelter we have noticed that when he passes by other dogs in kennels, if the kenneled dog is friendly and polite, Blue is too, and if the kenneled dog acts-out toward him, then Blue gets snarky too. But kennel behavior is not an indicator of future behavior out of the shelter, of course.
He would do well as the only dog in the family, or with a calm, friendly female perhaps. If you have a dog you should definitely bring your dog to the shelter to meet Blue if you are interested in possibly adopting him. His new family should be people who know and love the bully breed, who are experienced big-dog owners, who will be responsible guardians and keep him safe and loved as the family's best buddy should be. And naturally, as good guardians of a bully breed, he would not be taken to dog parks or put into other off-leash situations. If you think he might be a match for you, then come on out and meet him in person and spend some time getting acquainted out in the play yard. Adoption fee $50 includes neuter, vaccinations, and microchip, and he needs a home off base.
The public is welcome to come adopt the patriotic pets at the Camp Pendleton Animal Shelter! All pets are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and micro-chipped prior to adoption.
