Lefty the Dog needs a home
We're not sure of Lefty's age, but based on his energy level, teeth, etc, we think he's about 4 yrs old and a good sized 28 dense pounds. He is completely hairless, except for some random hairs all over his body. We are not sure if he's Xolo or American Hairless Terrier, but it does seem he's a mystery mix of some kind. His skin is very soft.
Lefty came from a background of neglect, where he was likely the low-dog on the totem pole. At some point, he lost half his left ear, and part of his tail. When he first came into rescue, he was extremely fearful. With time, and being fostered with a well-balanced pack, he's come really far. He trusts his foster mom, and is a good listener.
It took a few months to get there, but he now is a very loving, happy boy. His favorite activities are going for walks, eating, playing with toys, going on squirrel patrol duty, and snuggling on the couch. Sounds like a true dog, huh? He absolutely loves to play with other dogs and would love a playmate who has good dog social skills to help keep him playing nicely.
For the most part he's pretty mellow and laid back. He does bark at squirrels and passers by, but can be corrected. He does have quite an amusing snore and makes lots of sweet grunting and groaning sounds to vocalize his point of view. He's done very well on his house manners now that we walk regularly, and he is gated/restricted to the laundry room while his foster mom's at work.
His adopter should expect him to take a little while to trust, and be willing to offer patient support while he settles in. He is definitely manageable during this phase, with daily routine around food, walks, play, and rest. We feel his most successful match will have (1) a fenced in yard; (2) at least one other balanced dog, ideally about Lefty's size, between 15-30 pounds; (3) within driving distance of Greenville, SC (however far that is for you), as he is not a candidate for air travel.
Lefty's being fostered with cats, which he is overly interested in, so we do not recommend a forever home with cats unless they are super dog-savvy and confident. Also, we would not recommend him for a home with kids under 10 years old. In prior foster care, Lefty never seemed to trust his foster dad, and so he may do best in an all-female home. There were young teen males in the home, which he liked just fine.
