Adopt a Dachshund / Mixed

A QUIRKY LITTLE FELLOW:  2 years old / 16 lbs.  Mostly Mutts adoption facility is open Mon-Sat. 11-4pm.  Some of us are in foster homes so please call 770-272-6888 1st to find out if I’m available to meet during the week.  I’m a real go-getter who is looking for a nice, dog-savvy family who will understand my likes and dislikes. I enjoy rolling in the grass, giving you kisses and getting belly rubs.  Close contact with my people is what I want, and you’ll always know you’re loved with me around to show you.  I’d like to be your only pet as I don’t like other dogs or kitty cats and don’t have a positive reaction when I see them.  But, I’ll dance on my hind legs to show you my happiness, and I’m very treat-motivated so you can teach me lots of cool stuff.  My potty manners have been good both in my foster home and at the MM shelter.  I seem to be two different dogs:  At the shelter including adoption days, I’m anxious, nervous, barky, growly, and basically hard to handle, and I don’t seem like a nice dog at all!  In fact, we’re trying a calming medication with me to see if that helps me.  But, in my foster home after given time to fit in, I’m relaxed and loving!  A fenced yard is a must have for me because I do not do well when I leave my home.  I react with barking and growling at other dogs and people passing by.  But I do need exercise, so playing in a fenced yard with my people would be fantastic!  Once I’ve gotten enough exercise, I like to settle in for some snuggling or a nap.  If you leave my crate door open, I might walk in for a little quiet time on my own. I also sleep quietly all night in my crate in my foster home. I now know ‘sit’, ‘place’, ‘stay’ and ‘come’ and you can certainly teach me more with lots of positive reinforcement.  I don’t like to be picked up or have anyone come from behind and startle me, so please respect my ‘quirks’.  I do love jumping into your lap and snuggling, and I will love all the attention you give! It seems that I’m more cautious with men, so please go slowly when meeting me.  I’ve become more comfortable with car rides and will happily ride in your lap after you give me some help up getting up in the car. Leave the windows up, please, or I will likely try to escape the car. I will bark/growl enthusiastically at anyone who walks by the car, and at other animals, so best only rides to the vet and other necessary places.  Energy Level: 4-6.  NO kids, please, due to my reaction to other dogs and the fact that I’m a bit unpredictable. I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, neutered and my adoption fee is $275.00.
