Adopt a Chihuahua / Dachshund / Mixed

Meet Stella 'Luna', a 10 lb Chihuahua mix of about one year of age, recently found abandoned in a Minneapolis suburb. This sweet, cuddly girl is still a bit shy with new people/dogs of all ages and unfamiliar surrounding however with each positive experience, her confidence grows.

Stella is house-trained, has gotten use to a regular routine of outdoor potty breaks and is capable of being left alone for a full working day. Although Stella is not crate trained, she does well confined to a small space and currently spends work days in the kitchen with the resident dog. When the foster family works from home, Stella usually prefers sitting in a someone's lap. At night, Stella has several sleeping options however she can often be found snuggled under the covers with her foster family.

Stella is generally a quiet little girl however she can be a bit vocal when she wants her foster family's attention. When it's time for a potty break or strangers pass by, Stella will be sure to let you know and therefore a home without shared walls would be best.

Stella is a young dog with an energy level to match and currently does best with several walks a day along with periodic zoomies about the backyard. Stella is making progress with leash walking but she is still very interested in chasing rabbits and squirrels so a fenced in yard is a must. Stella is still reactive to other dogs and although we are working on appropriate social skills, chain linked fences separating another yard containing dogs are not recommended.

Stella currently lives with an older dog and a very confident cat however neither appreciate entertaining a young dog. Because she is a young, impressionable dog, Stella would benefit with regular playdates, socialization at dog parks or dog friendly businesses as well as obedience classes to help her continue to gain confidence.

In the short time Stella has been in foster care, she has been such a joy. With patience and continued training, Stella has the potential to be a great family companion.

Stella's adoption fee is $275, which includes vet exam, age-appropriate vaccinations and tests, microchip, and spay/neuter. Please note that we only accept cash or checks - no credit cards.
