Adopt a Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Husky / Mixed

Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Husky / Mixed Dog

Sofia D4015 the Dog needs a home

Sofia is an absolute doll and will surely make an all-around swell companion! Her birthday is believed to be January 2014, and she weighs approximately 50#... but would be more healthy at 40#. Since coming to MN from a shelter in Arkansas, she has been so pleasant and loving. No accidents in the home; she goes outside on a regular basis (2-3 times a day) for potty breaks and brief walks due to the frigid weather. The (presumed) Cattle Dog in Sofia is incredibly smart... but the (presumed) Husky part shows its stubborness during her training sessions. Luckily, prior to living with her foster, she learned "sit" and knows that one well. She is quite food motivated, so she caught on quickly that she needs to sit and "wait" for her meals. Now, she's working on "down," "off," "come." Her pet names are "SofaQueen" because she loves sitting on the couch with her fosters (to which she has learned to politely "sit" to ask "please, may I join you on the couch"); and "Snowglobe" because of her white Husky fur and she's a little on the pudgy side!  She is on a little diet to cut back a bit on the fat. When going for walks, she is learning not pull so much; the martingale collar certainly helps, but she may benefit from a gentle leader if adopted by a family that does/can not tolerate pulling. When she's not cuddling on the couch with her foster, she doesn't mind hanging out in her crate while her fosters are away. However, she is proving to her foster parents that she can be left alone longer and longer without having to be crated. Her new little quirk is napping on TOP of her kennel! She enjoys the attention during her 1-2 times a week brushings to reduce her shedding. She's new to her foster home, so she's still learning how to interact with the resident pets: 2 adult cats(RC and Mr.T), 55# 10yr female dog (Moxie), and 65# 12yr male dog (Hobbes).  The cats and Sofia are still not sure of each other, so that'll come in time, hopefully. Though, Sophia seems to be getting along well with Hobbes after a gradual and positive introduction; their time together is still closely monitored to prevent any issues. However, she and Moxie are not on the greatest terms... but that may be mostly Moxie's fault for barking at her so much! She has met a couple other dogs at an adoption event, which was pretty stressful for her. However, Sofia responded very well with some treat redirection and blocking her view from other dogs.
