Adopt a Cattle Dog / Mixed (medium coat)
Stowie the Dog needs a home
OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS: We do allow out-of-state adoptions for dogs, however, the adopter MUST come to Houston to get the dog and take the dog home with them. We do not allow our dogs to be shipped. Also, our puppies can only be adopted to the immediate Houston vicinity as it takes 4 months to get them completely vetted at our vet here in Houston. We will not allow our dogs/puppies to be adopted out of the area without being spayed/neutered. We spay/neuter puppies at 4 months old.
It seems like another lifetime when I try to recall it; for us pups, bad memories fade fast. I had a home, not a very good one, I guess because I ended up on my own, pregnant and not very “street smart”. I was hit by a car and took a pretty good lickin’. A nice lady that witnessed the whole event said the driver of the car just kept on going. She put me in her car and took me to the shelter. The kind doctors there did a thorough exam on me. I had some scrapes and cuts and I was limping badly. I think it was obvious to them that I had some pups on board – I had no clue, just being a year or two old. The doctors did x-rays and could find no serious breaks or damage but they did find 10 babies in my tummy! Well they decided to get me into a foster home right away because the “arrival” could be at any time! So I got a new nice foster home with a cozy pen and three big meals a day (and snacks when I wanted - I was eating for 11)! I hurt an awful lot from the accident but luckily, my foster folks were doing everything they could for me. Five days later, I was napping in my pen when the oddest thing happened. I was clueless but fortunately, foster mom came downstairs and found a newborn pup, still in the “sack” laying in my pen. She went to work lickity split and brought the little thing to life. Until that moment, I had no idea what was transpiring. I guess I had the normal reaction, I took to motherhood instantly!! The rest of the pups came along pretty fast, I really kept foster mom busy!! After eight pups, nothing happened for a long time, then, one more little pup came on the scene. Foster mom worked with him for a long time because he was blue and did not want to breath. I would have helped, but I was a little busy! Turns out, he had to wait in line behind one pup that did not stay alive. (sad).
Fast forward through motherhood – (I loved it and I am told that I was an excellent mother) to now. All my pups are in the care of other good folks except one, the last little guy. Foster folks are holding on to him for a bit. He had to be bottle fed in addition to nursing (he had a time fighting for space at the tummy table). He is a little small and took a little longer developmentally, but he is a scrapper now! I guess he gets that from me. My foster folks thought I was so stoic through the whole ordeal that they named me “STOWIE”. I have completely recovered from my injuries and enjoy playing and running in the yard. I am very affectionate and smart. I am house trained and I sleep all night. I “shake” for treats and sit for meals. I do need a little work on leash training, no one ever taught me that (obviously). However, I don’t mind the leash – I think I would really love to go on long walks, maybe to a dog park where there will be playmates! I am very loving and loyal and love to snuggle on the sofa and lay my head in a lap.
