Adopt a Chocolate Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat)

Wolfgang is a sweet and smart two-year-old chocolate lab mix in need of a special and patient home.  We’re not sure what happened to Wolfy as a youngster, but his experiences left him with very little confidence.  When he first arrived with us, he was afraid of meeting new people and dogs.  He needed to be carried outside at the start of his walks, and we had to use a double leash system to make sure that he couldn’t slip his harness if he got spooked.



Thanks to the love, patience, and dedication of our volunteers, Wolfy began showing improvements.  First he would bark in greeting at people he recognized, then he began to cuddle on his bed with his favorite volunteers, and now he practically wiggles himself silly when it’s time to put his harness on and go for a walk.



Since learning that his harness means he gets to go outside and explore, he’s begun using it as a confidence booster.  Similar to the way certain working dogs understand they are dressing for their job when their harnesses go on, Wolfy understands he’s getting dressed to face the outside world, and that his people are going to be with him.  His confidence perks up, his tail starts wagging, and he proudly shows off his leash manners while exploring the acres around the rescue.



Not only has Wolfy figured out that people aren’t necessarily bad and scary, but he’s also decided that playing with other dogs can be fun.  He definitely prefers female friends and has had a blast learning from former residents like Mae, Lucy Goose, and Mocha.  He would be thrilled to be able to join a family with a friendly female dog that can continue helping him with his doggy communication and play time.  He also would be happy to join a family with a dog-loving feline.  He’s met several kitties since arriving at the rescue and has decided that kitties can be pretty cool companions.



Because he is still a work in progress, Wolfy would do best in a patient and understanding adult only home that doesn’t mind the extra time it will take to help him feel safe in his new home.  He would love to find a family that has unconditional love to give and wants to help him gain the confidence he needs to be the best dog he can be.



Wolfgang is neutered, up to date on vaccines, HW negative and microchipped.
