Foster Home Feedback
2/15/18 Volunteer Feedback: I pulled this handsome devil from the pound and he immediately won me over! Clever name huh?! We call him "Luda" for short. The pound staff said he was a little shy at first, but he warms up super quickly. I learned this when I picked him up. When I opened the door, he cowered with his tail between his legs and it was kind of sad. I leashed him up and walked him out and as soon as he got out of the kennel he was super happy! Tail wagging and wanting to give me kisses. He rode perfectly in my car, stayed in the backseat and didn't try jump around. I even had another large male dog in my car (I drive an SUV), in the cargo area and he was very well mannered.
Luda does pull on the leash while walking, but I put an Easy Walk Harness on him and that helped immensely. He is also super treat motivated and so it should be very easy to work loose leash walking with him! He knows sit but gets a bit excited about treats and so takes him a second to focus and sit. He doesn't seem to know any other commands, but he seems very eager to learn and would be a quick student! I think Luda would do great in some basic obedience classes.
I introduced him to my female Pittie and they hit it off instantly. He was just freshly neutered, and he was a bit too interested at first. Once my dog let him know that wasn't going to happen, he just wanted to play with her. He's kind of weird with his play, but I didn't see any negative/aggressive reactions out of him, even when my dog corrected him for hanging around her rear end a bit too long.
Because he came from the pound, we don't know anything about his backstory and whether or not Luda is potty or kennel trained, or how he is with cats or kids. However, at 2 years old, I would think he is potty trained or at least has some foundation of it hopefully. He also was very quiet and well mannered in his run at the pound and now at our facility, and so this makes me think the transition to a kennel wouldn't be a problem.
Luda is a very loveable, affection dog. It may take a second to warm up to him, but once you show him some love, he just melts. Please consider making Luda a part of your family!
