Lakota the Cat needs a home
HISTORY: LAKOTA was brought to the Santa Fe Humane Society Animal Shelter after his owner developed health problems, and was to be FIV+. However, as is typical with many FIV+ cats he has no symptoms, is in excellent health and expected to live a normal lifespan. While conventional thinking is to only place an FIV+ cat in a home with no other cats or with another FIV+ cat, there are many “mixed households”. According to Cornell University, the primary mode of Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) transmission is through repeated fights resulting in the exchange of blood, and it poses no threat to humans or other species. TEMPERAMENT: A bit shy at first, LAKOTA quickly becomes a very sweet and affectionate lap cat when petted. He loves to be brushed and to have a 'safe place' to take a nap. LAKOTA would be happiest in a quiet home with no aggressive dogs or small children, and would prefer either to be an only cat or with another mellow kitty. LAKOTA is a big, handsome Turkish Angora mix boy with a long black coat and small 'rips' on both ears.
