Sarah is a very friendly and affectionate, although camera-shy, 7-8 year-old Shepherd/Beagle mix female who came to Canine Lifeline from a local county dog shelter. She came into the shelter after having been rescued from a deplorable hoarding situation. She not only tested positive for heartworms at the shelter but had a grapefruit-sized hernia on her abdomen that needed to be repaired. Fortunately, the shelter reached out to us for help with her and Sarah made the short trip to Canine Lifeline to get the medical attention that she needed. Sarah had surgery to repair the hernia in December and after she had healed from that, went through lifesaving heartworm treatment. Sarah did very well with her treatment and is now ready to find herself a home where she can live her life as someone’s pampered pup. Although Sarah gets along well with other dogs in most circumstances, she most definitely does not like to share her toys (she LOVES stuffed toys!) with other dogs so we do want to place her in a home as an only dog. After the horrible life she had before coming into the shelter, we think Sarah deserves to get all the attention she can from her humans without having to share it with other canines. Sarah did well with crate rest during her recuperation from heartworm treatment. She may need to work on housetraining a bit more in her new home but should pick up the new routine with patience and consistency on the part of her family. Sarah loves to snuggle with her humans and is going to make the most devoted companion for one lucky person or family. She can’t wait to get that chance! Sarah weighs about 40 pounds and her adoption fee is $150. She’s spayed, current on monthly heartworm preventative, up to date on vaccinations, wormed, on flea preventative, and microchipped. All Canine Lifeline adoptions come with a two-week trial period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email

An approved application is required before we set up meets with any of our dogs. All of our dogs come to us from county dog pounds so we have no history on them. We also have no foster homes with young children so aren’t comfortable placing any of them in a home with children less than 4-5 years of age. We try to respond to inquiries within 24-48 hours so if you haven’t heard from us within that time frame, please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there. Please visit our website at www.caninelifeline.org to see more photos of Sarah and to submit an online application.

Sarah’s
heartworm treatment cost about $750. If you’d like to make a donation to help with her care so that we may save another dog in the future, please do so on our website at
