PERRITA the Dog needs a home
She's here...She has finally arrived from the devastated island of Puerto Rico!!! She has survived several years on her own, alone, hungry and searching for love! Our beautiful girl "Perrita" lived for a long time within the confines of a construction yard, hiding under building material for shelter. Once she found freedom, litters of puppies followed and so did bad people who threw boiling water at her to make her go away...and she still has the scars to prove it! Finally the hurricane season of 2017.... This brave dog survived the wrath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria which was a direct hit on Puerto Rico. She finally found her way to safety through Defensa Ricon who found her a good place to stay. They gave her medical treatment, vaccinations and she is now spayed. However, more sad news for this girl. She not only tested positive for Anaplasmosis and Ehrlichia but she is also Heartworm positive. That's when RPC stepped in and reached out to the wonderful people at Defensa to help. A magnificent effort by a group of courageous and dedicated women with Defensa and Responsible Pet Care have now bonded for life while working together to get Perrita from Puerto Rico to Boston's Logan Airport where she was met by RPC Canine Director, Pat Ingersoll, who transported her directly to the safety of RPC. Now, Perrita and "her staff at RPC" are getting acquainted and sharing stories. Being a warm weather girl, she is building her wardrobe of sweaters and warm coats to keep her warm in the cold Maine temperatures and snow and she is looking for more to add to her collection! She will soon begin her Heartworm treatment and that's where YOU all come in! She will need lots of medical care, treatments, testing and vet visits to get her well again. We hope that you will make a donation to help this wonderful and very special dog on her road to recovery. Donations in her name may be sent to Responsible Pet Care at P. O. Box 82, Norway, Maine, 04268 or visit our website, www.responsiblepetcare.org to make a donation on line. You can also donate to her story on Pound Wishes mentioned in the article below! Once our little Perrita has completed treatment, she will be ready for a new home of her own. If you would like too meet her or possibly foster her, please call the shelter at 207-743-8679 and speak with Pat or Lucille!!! Please follow her updates on our Facebook Page (Responsible Pet Care of Oxford Hills). And see her whole story here below going all the way back to September 2017..... Thank you!
