SWEET, FRIENDLY DOG THAT LOVES PEOPLE! ONE OF OUR FAVORITES HERE!!!

UPDATE 1/11/18:

Preacher is a 5 year old, 65 pound, neutered male, Fox Hound/Lab (mix) that loves hanging out with people.  He is an easy dog to be around and he does everything I ask him to do.  He very much wants his own family.  Like a “Jack in a Box,” his head pops up anytime someone passes his shelter door.  PLEASE READ this list of his WONDERFUL TRAITS!  He:

- loves to be petted and hang out with adults.  He never jumps up on people.

- is well mannered and clean in his room (was house trained in previous home).

- is a low energy couch potato dog, not destructive of soft things, and rarely barks.

- loves to run in short spurts and hang out in the yard.  He runs in big, happy circles, growling and spinning with joy as he goes.  He then returns to us with a big, proud smile that says “I was fast, wasn’t I!”  We exclaim “Good Boy!” and love on him, of course.  After that, he is ready for a nap.

- is good on leash but seems to prefer lounging inside a fenced yard.

- loves to walk right beside us in the yard and comes when called, if he is off exploring.

- enjoys sitting real close to us—leaning his body against ours in hopes that we love on him.

- loves to be brushed, receive butt rubs, and accepts treats with a very gentle mouth.

- has learned to SIT and WAIT for treats.  He loves food puzzle toys too.

- is afraid of being inside a crate and worries about heavy rain and thunder storms.

- doesn’t like to be physically pushed but can be lured into doing what you want him to do.

- has resource guarded his spot on a sofa and high value food treats, but he is less protective of his important things with people he trusts not to be a threat to those things.

He would do best as an only dog in an adult home because he worries when other dogs and children focus on him.  Gentle, patient, people who enjoy teaching big, smart, couch potatoes new things will LOVE him.  When he is relaxed and not feeling threatened, he will do what you want him to do.

HIS STORY:  Preacher came to us as a stray on 8/8/15 with large gashes on his neck.  He was quickly adopted, but became appallingly obese and came down with Lyme disease.  His people didn’t notice he was feeling very sick, and when they tried to push him off the sofa he growled at them.  We got him back, vetted him to make him healthy again, and now that he isn’t obese or sick he is back to his truly WONDERFUL self.
