Adopt a Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (short coat)

Another great dog from Ventura Animal Care Center. And they really did care for Dottie. Then they found me...
Dottie is three years old, gorgeous, pure bred cattle dog, and she is blind.

Dottie was first shown to me wearing a "halo" donated by  Muffin's Halo For Blind Dogs. Helps her tap into things rather than bump into. I'd never seen one. Great idea. However, she is phenomenal on her own. Just have to sort of lead her around if I move something, and unfortunately I'm doing some remodeling, so Dottie has to deal with furniture there one day, and not the next. Dottie figures it out!

First day here she was in the yard with the pack all day. I let her in the smaller yard w/access to the dog door, so she could eat and go into a straw filled dogloo if she wanted. Next thing I heard was the dog door. She was in the house. And she has been ever since. I took it in stride, congratulated her and led her to the Kuranda bed she would have to sleep on if she wanted to stay inside. Went out to dinner, and when I returned, there she still was. Now she is in and out at will. I tried bringing her food bowl to her, but she likes eating from the communal feeder outside. She's a normal dog. Somehow, she does see.

Dottie was not connecting with me at first. Indifferent. I bribed her with chicken and everything I could think of...
She had this harness on, and I thought it was kind of tight around her rib cage. She had been wearing it since she got here, 3 or 4 days, and I decided to take it off. Soon as I released that clip around her torso, she jumped up, licked me in the face, spun around, tail wagging! She was so happy! She was just not comfortable!

She is now cruising around with a light lead hanging from a collar so I can guide if needed.
This dog is nothing short of AMAZING!
She jumped on my extra tall bed for Pete sake!

Obviously not a dog you want the kids hanging off of. Although she has never opened her mouth in protest, she startles sometimes, I mean, she can't see you reaching out to touch her.

Dottie would definitely be fine around any other animals.
She is a great companion and will make someone a wonderful friend for the rest of her life.
