All dogs with PUP are in private foster homes so we can provide our potential adopters the most current information available.
Health: Benny has been neutered and microchipped. He is current on his DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies. He has been wormed, flea treated, and tested negative for heartworm. One of his legs had to be amputated, and is gaining strength as a little tripod.
History: Benny comes from an overcrowded shelter in California. PUP was asked to help and we are so glad we did. All dogs PUP pulls from California come with health certificates, as required by Washington state.
Notes from Benny's Foster Home:
We should have just named him “Adorbs” instead of Benny because that seems to be the universal reaction to him! In addition to being a tiny and adorable tripod, Benny has a wonderfully sweet disposition and loves to snuggle. Though he is still quite young and does like to be silly and play with toys sometimes, he is surprisingly mellow for such a young dog. He is not a barker and is quiet overall; though he did cry initially when we would leave him alone, he has adjusted nicely to living with us and it is rare now for him to cry out when left. Benny can be timid at first but we’re already seeing him become more confident and social as we make an effort to expose him to different people and settings. Though he loves to snuggle on the couch and would happily sleep in bed, he does sleep quietly in his crate through the night and does not fuss if asked to go into his crate in the daytime or to ride in his crate in the car. He is house trained on a schedule but does not yet know how to ask to go outside. Benny is still gaining physical confidence as he learns how to navigate life on three legs. He moves around quickly and easily on a flat surface and can go up and down the single stair out to our dog yard, but he does not yet know how to navigate two or more stairs and cannot jump onto furniture on his own. Our experience with other three-legged dogs makes us confident that Benny will gain more strength and skills in the coming months and will be able to move around with very few limitations. Benny gets along fine with our other small dogs and would do well in a home where he can move around safely without fear of being stepped on by young children or large dogs. Benny is just a wonderful little dog and we look forward to seeing him thrive as a beloved little superstar in the right family.
Note: The above description reflects the behavior we have observed in the dog's foster home. Although PUP provides adopters up to the minute information on our dogs, we cannot guarantee they will behave in the same manner in a different environment with new owners.
