After months of work with his trainer, he mastered all the skills in his individualized training plan and is now a certified TOP (Total Obedience Program) Dog. In addition to his impressive repertoire of skills Spanky is a TOP dog in so many ways. We'll break it down for you like this: He's a TOP kisser. A hit with the ladies, Spanky is never one to shy away from PDA. He loves nothing more than to love up on his human friends and kiss and cuddle all day long. Essentially, he's a real-life teddy bear that will curl up with you in bed, offering the quiet comfort that only dogs can provide. He's a TOP dresser. Everyone at the shelter knows of Spanky's trademark look. He is rarely seen without a colorful neck tie. Always ready for a costume party, he even puts up with the most ridiculous pink, frilly ensembles. An entertainer at heart, Spanky loves to make people smile and laugh. He's a TOP decorator. Spanky is known as APA's resident interior designer. During his downtime, he keeps himself busy by redecorating his kennel with his bed and blankets. You never know what to expect when you peek inside his studio! It's always amusing when he's found wiggling under his blankets or crouched like a secret agent under his bed. Being the Southern gentleman that he is, Spanky always greets his guests with a toy in his mouth and a look in his soulful eyes that say, "Want to play? Here's my favorite toy! He's a TOP leash walker. If you're looking for a dog that won't give you an arm workout, Spanky's your boy! He's easy breezy on his walks and prefers to cruise along at a slow and steady pace while taking intermittent sniffing breaks. He really just loves stopping at the bleachers for a long cuddle session. He's a TOP best friend. Being the theatrical extrovert that he is, Spanky just loves being around the people he loves and trusts. He can be a little shy at first, but once you win his trust, he will be your bestest friend for life and will make you feel like a rock star every day. More about the TOP Dog Program: The program is modelled after the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. As a TOP dog, Spanky has a personalized training plan and works with a volunteer trainer several times a week to help him/her learn a number of skills including "sit and "down, walking nicely on leash, sitting calmly when approached by strangers or other dogs, staying in a sit or down until told "free," and coming when called. Now that Spanky successfully completed all the skills on his training plan, he is considered TOP Dog Ready!
