Adopt a Domestic Short Hair (short coat)
Mr. Gray the Cat needs a home
My name is Mr. Gray, and I’m a neutered male short-hair with an all gray coat and gray whiskers. I have very soft and silky fur; and not to brag, but people tell me that I have a very striking and attractive face.
My mom and dad were foster volunteers with the Montgomery County Humane Society. Over nearly two decades they helped to find forever homes for dozens of cats, dogs, rabbits, and even chinchillas! Some of us managed to convince Mom and Dad that we should become a permanent part of their home; and while the foster organizers may have categorized us as ‘foster fails’, I say we just proved to be too irresistible.
In my years with Mom and Dad I have lived with many other cats, dogs, and rabbits. I have lived in a big house that had an animal-friendly fenced backyard way up on a hill in a quiet neighborhood. I am a relatively large-framed boy, but am pretty cautious and independent relative to other cats – consider me the strong, silent type. I don’t like to make waves – live and let live, I say. I have no problems with dogs (as long as they have no problems with me, of course) – and I’ve been living with a large chow mix for a number of years without incident.
I also can be shy and cautious around people, but I can definitely tell if you’re friendly and a cat person – I’ll surprise you by showing up at your feet and or hopping up to sit next to you on the couch. I crave peace and quiet; and under those conditions particularly I’m very content to sit next to you and purr while you pet me. I have a soft and gentle meow that betrays my size.
I have ventured outside on occasion (into the safe and monitored backyard at my parents’ house), but not anytime recently and it’s definitely not my preference – I prefer the safety and security of the indoors, preferably with you in a quiet room reading or relaxing.
Here’s the sad part of my story: Mom passed away suddenly in early 2015, and Dad in July of this year. I really like being around people and so it’s lonely now without them. I am looking for a new forever home where I can explore my indoor environment and be as friendly and affectionate with my new parents as I have been with Mom and Dad.
I have current and complete vet records, and am up to date on all of my shots. I am on a few medicines I take daily – sulfasalazine, ranitidine, and cisapride – to help with my digestion; but I take these without objection mixed in with my food. I am hoping to find a compassionate new home that will accept me as I am in this regard.
I am very easygoing regarding food --I eat store brand dry food along with store brand moist food (to sweeten the deal) daily; nothing fancy but suits me fine. I am overweight even for my large frame (it really only really shows around my belly), probably due to the digestion condition mentioned, but there are no related issues – I get around very well and happily hop up on the couch to be petted when you’re near.
If you can see me becoming a part of your home, I would love to meet you! Thank you so much for considering allowing me to become part of your life.
