This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped.
Goldy has asked SOS to find her an active, fun forever home and we are happy to oblige!
She appears to be a boxer and shepherd mix about one year old. She is eager to learn new things and to please, and always ready for the next adventure. She likely lived a sheltered life prior to coming to SOS, so she is still learning about, and becoming comfortable with, the active human environment. She is making great progress learning that her first reaction to a new thing should not be concern (bark/growling). Goldy's new home should plan to take things slow with her, and manage all new situations carefully so that she can continue to create positive associations and learn proper responses to new things. Goldy can be unsure of some men and most children, so an in-person meeting with all members of her new household will be very important.
Goldy would do best in an adult-only home with one or several adults who are strong leaders and offer a consistent routine where she will get at least one hour of focused exercise per day - think hikes, walks, runs, tricks, agility. Inside the home after her walks, she's a calm, well-mannered girl. She loves to cuddle up and watch a good movie, and LOVES to play with toys and will entertain herself for hours with a ball, tossing it to herself! She would enjoy the company of a playful canine sibling, but would also likely do very well as an only dog so she can have all your attention and affection. She is house- and crate-trained and walks very nicely on a leash. She is very strong, but responds very nicely to corrections and walks well on a Gentle Leader. Goldy does not require a yard but does need regular daily exercise and mental stimulation. Group training classes are a must for Miss Goldy, and those will also help her understand what is expected of her, help socialize her further, help her bond with her new family, and help both learn how to effectively communicate with each other. She would also thrive with additional training like brain games, scent work, agility, etc. She has a very active mind, and is very eager to please and do whatever you want her to do - she just needs to be told what that is! With training, patience, and a regular schedule, Goldy will thrive and blossom into the fun adventure dog she is meant to be.
Can you give Goldy the commitment and adventure she needs? This lovebug will reward you with endless love and friendship for years to come! Apply now!
Goldy's Backstory: Goldy was brought to an Arkansas shelter as a stray early in January 2017 by the Sheriff's Department and Animal Control. When she arrived at the shelter, she was skin and bones, but she has filled out nicely and is an ideal weight at 54 lbs.
Adoption Fee: $425
**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
