Adopt a Rat Terrier (short coat)
Captain (FL) the Dog needs a home
Captain is an adorable 5-year-old, 24 lb. Rat Terrier with a great love of outdoor adventures. He enjoys boating in his kayak and going on long hikes with his humans. At home he can usually be found in the backyard hunting the mighty lizard. Captain is house-trained and knows how to use a dog door. He rides well in the car and enjoys going to the dog park. He gets along with the other dogs there when he is free to roam off leash, but on leash he can react defensively. He currently lives with a cat and mostly ignores her. With strangers, Captain is very timid and frightens easily. He barks, and when he feels really threatened he will growl to signal he is uncomfortable, but he has never bitten anyone. For this reason though, Captain would do best in a home without kids, especially those younger than school age who might not understand or heed his warnings, or older kids who have lots of friends coming and going as that would be very stressful for him. Captain is accustomed to sleeping in bed with his people and he likes to cuddle and snuggle. He doesn't like to be alone, but does ok if confined to a restricted area when no one is home. Captain would love to find a First Mate who shares his love of the outdoors, enjoys lots of one-on-one time, and who would protect him from any scary people out there. Do you fit the job?
