Adopt a German Shepherd Dog (medium coat)
Shado Black German Shepherd the Dog needs a home
ONLY EXPERIENCED ADOPTER NEEDED FOR THIS ULTRA SWEET BOY W/ a TRIGGER
NO small Children--FOOD AGGRESSIVE (can be trained out of him but w/ consistency and patience)
Love at first sight…Shado. A handsome black knight who came in…to steal my heart and hopefully, yours. 3y 40lb Shado is with us because his owners moved to a place not allowing pets. He comes with stellar recommendations. He lived and loved his companion elderly cat with whom he ate and slept. How sweet is that? Shado is shy within our walls. He accepts my lead without fuss, and for a pup who supposedly was never on a leash, he walks quite well after initial zigzagging. He is a Sheppie and a fast learner. Shado is not prey driven for birds, squirrels or little dogs. He nears politely dogs his size.
Although not a fan of my treats, he sits on command, and after a while spent together, ventures on the bench and on my lap, posing his paw over my arm and in my hand. Kisses follow. I must be doing something right, as Shado’s tail is not between his legs anymore. He looks happier. He is in the park, it is sunny, not that cold, and he is in company. Well, we are both happy. Lets try the yard. Shado is making progress by the minute. He is all excited. Balls are right up his alley. He runs and jumps for them and even brings them back toward me. For a first outing, we did great.
Another volunteer writes: As Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr. sang… “Just me and my shadow, strolling down the avenue….”. And that’s me and Shado. Bouncing in his kennel eager for a walk, he’s leashed easily and we go. He’s good on leash, a bit zig zaggy from time to time, but his plumbed tail wags as we head to the park. Surrendered by his family due to a move to a place where animals aren’t allowed, we’re told that he lived with an infant and would lay next to her, lived with an older cat with whom he would play and eat together, is friendly to strangers, likes to have a bone to chew on, and will lie in front of the door until someone comes home. On our first date Shado gave me a big stand up hug, along with some kisses, came on my lap when I sat on the bench in the park, and seemed unfazed by by people wheeling grocery carts with their weekend shopping done. He’s a sweetheart who seemed understandably unsettled when he first joined us, but has settled into the rhythm, looks forward to meeting new people, especially those carrying a leash. A gentle, sensitive soul.
Because he is extremely guarded around HIS food and garbage (not toys/chews), no very small children and no dogs in house unless he can be fed separately ALL THE TIME.

Many of us (cats/dogs) will be on display on on Sundays and sometimes on Saturdays--please ask by writing us at [email protected] and following us on FB. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application by Friday so that we can be sure to be there. Otherwise we decide based on other variables. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too.
